Describing having run into the sculptor Jacob Epstein after dining with Gordon Craig at Luigi's, and a "pleasant expedition" to the Royal Library at Windsor, where he and George W. Jones compared sheets from a 16th century book to some similar sheets owned by Jones, discovering that they were indeed from the same book; also mentioning a luncheon with the King's Librarian, Owen Morshead.

Jacob Epstein was born on 10 November 1880 in New York. While working in a bronze foundry, he studied sculptural modelling at evening classes. In 1902, he went to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Academie Julian. He moved to London in 1905, where he settled permanently, becoming a British subject in 1911. Henry Watson Kent served as the first professional librarian of the Grolier Club from 1903 to 1906 and originated its classification scheme.
